I don’t know a thing about you, but I’ll bet that no coach has a complete and absolute answer to the question, how to coach soccer? Coaching soccer is a skill that only those players can execute well who have spent significant amount of time with kids training and observing them.
Because, depending on their age group, player’s requirements change, their physical capacity to take stress increases, and their game skills develop.
This means that one method of dealing with kids of one age group may not apply to another age group. So, a coach is primarily responsible for ensuring mental clarity and emotional dignity in players by building their skills in a challenging and refreshing environment.
Of all the techniques, one that is most useful is the classification of a player’s role in the team within its strategic shape. This policy will allow for quick exposure of the discrepancy between the demand of the role and the skill of the player.
When we discuss soccer coaching, the first thing that comes to mind is the duty of the coach to foster an environment that inspires learning. When such an environment is created, help the players gauge the skills that they need to learn in order to perform well.
Bearing in mind a player’s physical, mental, emotional, as well as technical aptitude, classify his strengths and limitations. Talk about the issues one on one and allow enough time to improve them.
Teaching soccer is concerned with training the players some essential soccer skills. But then there are certain particular skills that are related to a player’s function in the team. Take them into account too.
If any old hand in soccer is asked about how to coach soccer, his instant reply would be to practice as much as possible. Regular practice of soccer skills perfectly matching a player’s personality and position on field can make all the difference.
Setbacks cannot be avoided no matter how good the player be. It may take the form of an injury, a team shuffle demanding his role change, or a defeat. Hence, instruct your players to face them boldly, learn from them, and move forward.
If there are serious issues with a player, discuss them with him or her individually. However, criticism should be used constructively and positively.
When it is time to close the session, talk to players about their experience, what did they like, dislike, and if they have any suggestions? This makes them feel a sense of camaraderie with each other. They find their interest renewed and feel energetic once again.
